The South African police has granted bail to the suspected killer of murdered 20-year-old Nigerian student, Naizi Evah.
Naizah, a 3rd year Systems Engineering student of the
Vaal University of Technology near Johannesburg, was discovered dead in
a pool of her own blood in her hostel room.
She was reportedly stabbed to death with her boyfriend, Trevor, who had allegedly abused her in the past, the chief suspect.
Acting Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Gordon Zide, confirmed that one of his students was arrested as a prime suspect.
“The suspect is indeed our student, his origin is
from Zimbabwe. They are conducting a DNA test for both the deceased and
the suspect and currently they are awaiting the result which will come
from Pretoria,” he said.
Interestingly, both the victim, who were lovers, are
students of the Vaal University and a recent break-up is seen as the
motive for the ‘crime of passion.’
At least one of Naizi’s female friends, Ripfumelo Mukhavele, believes this.
“I know that she dumped Trevor because Trevor told me
that he messed up and wanted to fix things. They always dumped each
other and got back together…but I never took it serious,” she said.
But the police seem to think different following their decision to grant him bail.
This obviously is not going well with Naizah’s family.
At a tribute ceremony in her honor at the University
premises, the deceased’s brother, Michael Evah, described her as
beautiful, god-fearing and intelligent.
But he also expressed the family’s fear that the case may be swept away.
“We do not want a situation where the case would die without trace,” Michael said.
Her body is expected to arrive Nigeria on Tuesday, June 3rd, for internment.
Do you think the suspect will got off easily being a South African national as some people have alleged?
