Photos: EFCC arrests three FAAN staff over N100m fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Tuesday, August 2, arrested a level six officer of the Accounts Department of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Christy Olabode, for an alleged fraud to the tune of N100 million.

Also arrested was her younger brother, Abdul-Shehu Obaze, a staff at the Commercial Department of FAAN in Ilorin, Kwara State, and Dominic Ojo, an IT officer at FAAN Headquarters, Lagos. 

Her arrest followed an anonymous petition, which indicated that she allegedly diverted the said sum, by inserting names of non-FAAN staff into its payroll.

Officials have poisoned hundreds of dogs in Karachi, Pakistan in the latest effort to curb a population of strays that attack thousands of people each day. Bodies of dead dogs are seen littered around the city as municipal workers gathered them for disposal.

Officials estimated the operation had culled thousands of strays but did not have a full accounting for all six city districts.

"At least 700 dogs have been killed only in two areas of Karachi's south in the couple of days," said Sattar Javed, a spokesman for the municipal authority.

Alleged budget padding: I won't resign - Speaker Dogara says

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, says he will not be resigning as speaker despite allegations of budget padding leveled against him by Abdulmumin Jibrin. The Nigerian U-23 team did a great job beating Japan 5 goals to 4 in Manaus on Thursday just hours after landing in Brazil for the Rio 2016 Olympics. Oghenekaro Etebo became the first Nigerian to score a hat-trick at the Olympics.
There were 8 goals scored in 77 minutes.

Sadiq Umar got the goal fest underway, putting Nigeria ahead barely five minutes in. Three minutes later Japan was awarded a penalty, which Shinzo Koroki converted from the spot to level the score at 1-1.

A couple identified as Mr and Mrs Francis Ekanem, lost their two children and home, in Ikot Usen, Ibiono LGA, Akwa Ibom state. According to an eyewitness, the tragedy occurred in the morning on August 1st.
The couple, reportedly bean cake (akara) traders, were outside by 2am grinding the beans needed to prepare their product later in the day. Their children were asleep in a room and a lit candle was also in the house. The candle fell and started a fire but the busy couple were initially not aware.
