Two men, Abbas Attahiru and Mohammed Sufiyanu, who parade themselves as
operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, were
today arrested for offences bordering on impersonation and obtaining by
false pretence. Both men were arrested after an individual notified the
commission of his encounter with both men.
The suspects had tried to extort some money from the
complainant who they told had a petition against him at the commission.
They promised to give the complaint a soft landing if he co-operated and
gave them some money.
Suspecting a foul player, the complainant contacted the commission and
he was asked to play along as the EFCC does not solicit for, nor accept
payments/gratification from persons or organisations under any guise to
settle matters.
The commission arrested both men at the home of the complainant where
they had gone to collect N100, 000 bribe meant to kill a fictitious
case. They will soon be charged to court.
