Akpabio, PDP Governors Forum Set to Reconcile Aggrieved Party Members
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) Governors Forum and
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Chief
Godswill Akpabio, has set machinery in
motion to reconcile aggrieved
members of the party and bring them
back into the fold, especially those who
walked out of the mini national
convention and formed the ‘New PDP’
last Saturday.
SaharaReporters gathered that
Akpabio has assured Nigerians that the
PDP Governors Forum has waded into
the crisis, which some governors of the
party said was primarily caused by the
crisis rocking the Adamawa State,
Nigeria chapter of the party.
According to Akpabio, the forum would
ensure that the crisis within the party
is resolved, adding that no matter
what happens, the PDP remained the
party to beat.
He said what happened at the mini
convention was a misunderstanding,
adding that all the governors on the
party’s platform would not leave any
stone unturned in making sure the
crisis becomes a thing of the past.
The governor said the forum had
made some overtures to the aggrieved
members of the party, including
former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar
and other governors who had formed
the ‘New PDP’.
He said within a short time the
misunderstanding would be attended
to, as members of the forum had
decided that the root cause of crisis
within the party would be confronted
and lasting solution found.
Quoting another member of the
forum, who does not want his name
mentioned, “Frankly speaking, we
were caught unawares by what
happened at the mini convention, I
mean the walk-out by former Vice-
President Atiku Abubakar and some
governors. But we have found out that
the problem stated when the acting
National Secretary, Remi Akintoye,
made the announcement that
delegates from Adamawa State would
not be allowed to vote, but the
statutory delegates.
“You know we have some issues with
the Adamawa State executive of the
party. All these issues will be looked
into and I can assure you that the
party will come out of this crisis
stronger than ever before.”
