3 die, 17 injured in Bauchi auto crash
THREE people, including a child, were
on Friday night killed in an auto- crash
at Gindin Tsamiya village, in Darazo
Local Government Area of Bauchi
State, while no fewer than 17 others
sustained varying degree of injuries in
the accident, which was said to have
been caused by over-speeding.
Sunday Tribune learnt that the
accident occurred at about 7:24 p.m.,
when two vehicles, a Toyota Camry,
with registration number AKK 281 AA,
and a Toyota commercial bus with
registration number XA 789 GM,
collided leading to the death of the
three.
Confirming the accident to journalists
in Bauchi on Saturday, the state’s
Sector Commander of the Federal
Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr
Sunday Henry Olatunji, attributed the
cause of the accident to overloading
and overspeeding on the part of the
drivers, whose names he gave as
Jafaru Ali and Aminu Dauda.
Olatunji said that 20 people were
involved in the accident, adding that,
“Out of the 20 persons that were
involved in the crash, there were 15
men, one female and two male
children. Three persons, which
included two men and a male child
were confirmed dead while 17 persons
sustained injuries.”
According to the sector commander,
the remains of the deceased were
taken to the morgue of the Darazo
General Hospital by FRSC officials from
Darazo division of the command, while
the injured were also taken to the
hospital for treatment.
